Hi, I'm Shashikant Patel—on a journey to understand the brain and its untold stories
My work revolves around building better disease models, figuring out the molecular mechanisms behind brain disorders, and exploring new treatment approaches.
PhD, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad
I’m particularly fascinated by how stress impacts mental health (yes, even vicariously!), how the brain heals after stroke, and how epigenetics plays a role in all of this. I work with mice, zebrafish, and cutting-edge neuroscience tools to answer these big questions.
Alongside my primary focus on stress-induced neurobiology, my secondary research explores ischemic stroke, particularly the role of sex differences, epigenetic regulation, and ischemic preconditioning in modulating neuronal damage and recovery. This work aims to identify translational targets for enhancing brain resilience following ischemic injury. Beyond the lab, I love sharing science through talks, mentoring, and discussions. As a first-generation college student, I know how important curiosity and persistence are in research, and I’m always happy to connect with aspiring neuroscientists!
